Hampton ground game runs over Florida A&M 25-0
HAMPTON, Va. — Steve Robinson carried 17 times for 150 yards and two touchdowns and Hampton rolled up 341 rushing yards in a 25-0 victory over Florida A&M on Saturday.
The win by the Pirates (5-5, 3-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), coupled with South Carolina State’s 37-13 win over Morgan State, knocked the Rattlers (7-3, 5-2) out of the conference race.
It was the first shutout of Florida A&M since a 62-0 rout by Virginia Tech in 2004, and its first conference shutout since a 25-0 loss to Bethune-Cookman in 1988.
Injuries made the Rattlers’ defeat more painful. Senior quarterback Curtis Pulley left in the first half after reaggravating a groin injury and backup Eddie Battle injured his shoulder late in the game. All three starting receivers — Kevin Elliott, Adrian Smith and Isaac West — also were hurt.
With their offense decimated, the Rattlers were held to 184 yards.
