Robert Morris beats Monmouth 23-9 to end season

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Jeff Sinclair threw two touchdown passes and Robert Morris defeated Monmouth (N.J.) 23-9 on Saturday to close its season with five straight wins after starting 0-6.

After Sinclair’s 4-yard scoring pass to Sherrod Evers put the Colonials (5-6, 5-3 Northeast Conference) ahead 16-0, Garrett Clawson’s extra point was blocked and returned for a 2-yard safety by Jose Gumbs with 12:39 left.

Monmouth’s Kyle Frazier then threw the second of his three interceptions, and the Hawks (5-6, 4-4) were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. One play later, Sinclair threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Coleman for a 23-2 lead.

Sinclair was 13-for-17 for 128 yards for Robert Morris. Myles Russ added 74 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.

For Monmouth, which also finished its season, Frazier was 13-for-34 for 130 yards and one touchdown, a 15-yard pass to Ron Lauch with 4:45 left.
