Charleston Southern beats Coastal Carolina 30-23
CHARLESTON, S.C. — A.J. Toscano threw a touchdown pass and ran for another, leading Charleston Southern in a 30-23 win over Coastal Carolina on Saturday in the season finale for both teams.
Toscano was 18-for-26 with 198 yards and two interceptions, and added 45 rushing yards on eight carries for the Buccaneers (6-5, 4-2 Big South Conference). Antwan Ivey rushed for 145 yards on 19 carries.
The teams were tied at 10 at halftime, but John Paglia’s 44-yard field goal and Toscano’s 11-yard TD pass to Kwame Krakue put the Buccaneers ahead 20-10 midway through the third.
Late in the third, Tommy Fraser’s 2-yard touchdown run pulled the Chanticleers (5-6, 3-3) within four points. But Paglia’s 18-yard field goal and Matt Bach’s 25-yard interception return for a score put the Buccaneers up 30-16 with 4:32 left.
Zach MacDowall threw for 167 yards and two interceptions for the Chanticleers.
