Gainesville- Florida Gators defensive end Carlos Dunlap has been arrested with the charge of driving under the influence of alcohol at 3:25am near North Charleston, S.C, according to police.

Dunlap was then booked into a jail cell at 5:52 am, before being released on his own recognizance several hours later.

According to reports, Dunlap was apparently found slumped over the steering wheel at a green light, after officers responded to a reckless driving complaint. Officers attempted to speak with Dunlap and have him unlock the door but he could only manage a few words before falling back to sleep.

Eventually the officers managed to unlock the car and turn of the ignition. Dunlap refused a breathalyzer. Dunlap was then administered a field sobriety test which he failed.

Dunlap has seven sacks on the season and is considered a first-round draft prospect for the 2010 NFL draft. His status for the Alabama game is in jeopardy.

Carlos Dunlap’s father told that Dunlap likely will not play against Alabama after speaking with Florida’s coach Urban Meyer, as report suggests.

Dunlap’s decision to be out drinking in the middle of the night only a few days before the season’s biggest game will certainly be questioned by team officials, fans and NFL scouts.
