Porter leads La Tech past San Jose State 55-20

RUSTON, La. — Daniel Porter ran for 199 yards and three touchdowns, leading Louisiana Tech to a 55-20 win over San Jose State in the final game for Spartans veteran coach Dick Tomey.

The Bulldogs (4-8, 3-5 Western Athletic Conference) used a season-high 45-point first half to beat the Spartans (2-10, 1-7) and Tomey, who ended his 29-year career with a 183-145-7 record.

Tomey ranks behind only Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, Mack Brown and Frank Beamer in active wins by coaches in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

Porter, who finished with 28 carries, became Louisiana Tech’s all-time leading rusher on a 20-yard rush in the fourth quarter, surpassing Jason Cooper (1991-94). The Bulldogs running back finished his with career with 3,352 yards rushing.

Porter also became the second player in school history to have consecutive 1,000 yard seasons.
