HERSHEY (GaeaTimes.com)- The Hershey Bears reasserted their dominance in the AHL with their 11th Calder Cup win. The unlikely opponents opened the series with a 2-0 lead but the Hershey Bears pounded the new franchise with 4 consecutive wins to finish off by game 6. The finals on Monday saw the Texas Stars completely outplayed from the very beginning. The final score read 4-0 and the Hershey Bears celebrated on the home ice in style.
Texas Stars coach replaced star player Matt Climie with Brent Krahn. Matt Climie getting benched came as a surprise to many because of his often stellar performances like that in game 5. It is obvious that the Texas Stars were looking for something different after the three consecutive losses. Brent Krahn however failed to make much difference. For the Hershey Bears it was John Carlson who gave an early blow followed by Karl Alzner. The early goals almost rules out a Texas Stars’ comeback. The clincher came from Patrick McNeill who scored twice in the game to seal the trophy for his team. Another extraordinary performance was seen by the Hershey Bears goalkeeper who stopped all the 22 shots at the goal by the Texas Stars. In spite of the unassailable 4-0 lead the Hershey Bears continued to play with focus and determination. The Texas Stars who were stopped in the middle of their dream run had plenty of positives to take from the finals.
This was the Hershey Bears third Calder Cup win in the last 5 years and 11th overall. They are also the first team to win after rebounding from two consecutive losses on home ice at the start.
