OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA (GaeaTimes.com)- Thousands of spectators gathered at the Oracle Arena in Oakland could not have asked for anything more on Saturday when the home favourite Andre Ward defeated his fellow American boxer Alan Green to register a place for himself in the Super Six Boxing Classic. It was not only Andre Ward’s victory but also the stupendous performance displayed by the 26 year old boxer that left the crowds cheering to the fullest and asking for more.
The win during Saturday’s event turned out to be all the more sweet for the young American fighter as it marked his victory in the first defense of the WBA super middleweight title. Andre Ward won by a unanimous decision clinching victory in all the 12 rounds on the scorecards of the three judges. Despite the fact that during the initial round, the 26 year old boxer appeared to be a bit out of focus, he soon regained control and went on to completely overshadow his opponent, Allan Green. While reacting to his amazing victory, a visible delighted Andre Ward later revealed that it indeed felt great to have been able to defend his belt while adding that the win makes him feel like a real champion.
Meanwhile, although Allan Green connected few punches in the fight, during the seventh round when Andre Ward delivered few successive blows, it seemed that winning might be quite an uphill task for the 32 year old boxer. He lasted through the 12 rounds but at the end delivering a knockout to win was too much for him to achieve. However, he can still qualify by beating Mikkel Kessler.
