Germany midfielder Schweinsteiger still doubtful
ERASMIA, South Africa — Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger remains highly doubtful for Sunday’s second-round World Cup match against England because of a right thigh injury.
Germany coach Joachim Loew says he will use only players who are 100 percent fit and that there is a “big question mark” about Schweinsteiger and defender Jerome Boateng, who has a calf injury.
Schweinsteiger has assumed some of the defensive duties of captain Michael Ballack, who had to miss the tournament because of an ankle injury.
Striker Miroslav Klose is available after serving a one-match suspension.
