HARTFORD (GaeaTimes.com)- Bubba Watson made a historical comeback to win his first PGA tour title with the Travellers Championship. He came back into the game from a 6 stroke deficit and defeated Scott Verplank with a par in the second playoff hole. Bubba Watson, Scott Verplank and Corey Pavin were all forced into a playoff that saw Corey Pavin bowing out in the first round and Bubba Watson defeating Scott Verplank after the latter missed a putt in the second round.
After the 3 footer on Par-3 16th to win, Bubba Watson hugged his wife and broke down in tears. He said that he could not feel his arms during the putt due to excitement and pressure. He said that getting into playoffs after shooting 4 under was an ‘unreal’ experience and so was the final putt. He made the biggest comeback in the game since Padraig Harrington in the 2007 British Open. Bubba Watson had a 48 footer birdie where he kept his calm till he got close to the hole.
The emotional side of the long hitting left handed Bubba Watson was made evident after the win. He later revealed that he was an extremely emotional guy who cries a lot. He added that even cried when he went to church. He also revealed that he could not say ‘Yes’ during the exchange of vows at his own wedding and the priest had to ask to to utter it instead of just nodding. The win was exceptionally emotional for him especially because he came back from an almost impossible position and ended up winning the title after a sudden death playoff.
