DAMBULLA, SRI LANKA (GaeaTimes.com)- Suresh Raina has finally managed to silence his critics who thought he was not good enough for tests as he raced to his first test century on his test debut. In spite of the fabulous batting performances in one dayers and T20, Suresh Raina has been kept from the test squad considering his inability to play the short ball well. On Wednesday Suresh Raina proved that his resilience and doggedness was too good for the Sri Lankan attack.
Sri Lanka looked well in control of the second test right from day one. With Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakara belting the Indian bowling attack, it looked like another series clincher was in line for the Sri Lankans. tables turned on the third day as Sachin Tendulkar and Suresh Raina ensured that the test either draws or is in favor of India. As Sachin Tendulkar got his 48th test century Suresh Raina ensured that he provided the necessary support to the maestro. He finished day three at 66 and looked well set. It was interesting to see whether he will retain his concentration on the 4th day, but Suresh Raina kept his calm and continued with his balanced strike rotating game alongside the cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar.
Suresh Raina has had a roller-coaster career over the years. He was dropped from the side after his first series as he had a poor average and showed his discomfort with the short ball. He went in and out of the side as players like Saurav Ganguly were dropped and Virender Sehwag was injured. He become a household name after he piled huge scores in the third installment of the IPL for the Chennai Superkings.
