Big 12 coaches wary of health concerns

OKLAHOMA CITY — Gary Pinkel likes to get away from a stressful day and sneak in a quick shopping trip with his granddaughters, even it’s just for 15 minutes.

Little by little, Big 12 coaches say they do what they can to keep from neglecting their health while trying to put a winning team on the field. They also admit it’s getting harder than ever.

Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio suffered a mild heart attack Sunday morning, highlighting the health hazards of coaching that were a hot topic after Urban Meyer briefly resigned from Florida last season.

Big 12 coaches say it takes planning to squeeze exercise and proper meals into their busy schedules.
