Syracuse RB Delone Carter gets charge reduced

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Syracuse running back Delone Carter has had a misdemeanor assault charge against him reduced.

Carter pleaded guilty in city court on Thursday to harassment and admitted he punched a Syracuse University student during an on-campus altercation in February.

Judge Langston McKinney granted Carter a one-year conditional discharge, meaning the case will stay open for 12 months. If Carter stays out of trouble, it will be closed, attorney Kim Zimmer said.

Carter, the Orange’s leading rusher, was charged after a one-punch fight that followed a snowball-throwing incident on campus.

He also was suspended from school and later worked out a settlement with the university that called for him to perform 200 hours of community service. He rejoined the team in August.
