NEW DELHI - Australian women’s hockey team could not have asked for an easier workout than their Tuesday match against Trinidad and Tobago, whom they routed 11-0 to kick-start their campaign in the 19th Commonwealth Games here.

Emily Hurtz, with three goals, underlined the Aussie dominance while Megan Rivers (2), Casey Eastham, Madonna Blyth, Shelly Liddelow, Jessica Arrold, Jayde Taylor and Ashleigh Nelson struck at regular intervals.

For Trinidad and Tobago, it was their second big defeat in Pool A following their 12-0 loss on Monday to South Africa.

We dont get to play at this level often and so, it was a big experience for the girls. We only got together as a team recently and we can improve if we can play at this level consistently, said the Trinidad and Tobago coach Anthony Marcano.

Australian team coach Frank Murray, who will retire at the end of this competition, said he was expecting some tough matches from now on.
