CWG: India adds four Bronze medals; as pugilists disappoint

NEW DELHI - India could add just four Bronze medals here till Monday evening, as shooters duo Tejaswani and Meena Kumari and three pugilists contributed apiece to the total medal tally of 73 as recorded here on yesterday.
Indian medal tally reads 77 medals; 29 Gold, 22 Silver, and 26 Bronze medals with England closely following it with 26 Gold, 46 Silver, and 34 Bronze in its total medal tally of 106 medals in the ongoing Games on the 8th day of the competition.
Australia leads the medal tally with 61 Gold, 39 Silver, and 37 Bronze medals in its total medal tally of 137 medals till Monday evening.
Meanwhile, Indian boxer Manoj Kumar brought cheers to his fans, as he convincingly defeated Pakistan’s Haroon Iqbal with a score of 9-3, to enter the Finals of 64 kg category.
Playing earlier in the day, Commonwealth Championship gold medallist Amandeep Singh (49kg), Asian silver-medallist Jai Bhagwan (60kg) and nine-time national champion Dilbag Singh (69kg) had to be content with bronze medals after losing their semifinal bouts.
Amandeep lost 0-5 to Olympic bronze medallist and European champion Paddy Barnes of Northern Ireland, Jai went down 5-10 to European Championship silver winner Thomas Stalker of England and Dilbag was beaten 4-5 in a thrilling contest against Northern Ireland’s Patrick Gallagher.

India beat Canada 3-0 to finish fifth in Women’s Hockey.
Patrick beat Dilbag 5-4 in the semifinals of the welter weight category to hand India their boxing defeat in the last hour. (ANI)
