CWG men’s hockey: World champions Australia trounce India 8-0

NEW DELHI - World champions Australia trounced India 8-0 to claim the gold in the mens hockey competition of the Commonwealth Games at the Major Dhyan Chand stadium here Thursday.

India appeared a spent force after their early flash as the Australians struck at will through Jason Wilson (18, 28 minutes), Luke Doerner (33, 51), Chris Ciriello (21), Simon Orchard (60), Jamie Dwyer (66th) and Glenn Turner (70th).

It was Australias fourth gold medal in a row since the introduction of hockey at the Games in 1998 while for India, it was their first podium finish in three attempts following a fourth in 1998 and sixth in 2006.
