NEW DELHI - India was no match for Australia in the men’s hockey finals of the Commonwealth Games and so they deserved to lose, said Pakistani journalists covering the match.

As India crashed 0-8 to Australia, Pakistani journalists compared it to their country’s 4-7 defeat at the hands of Pakistan.

“Aussies are known for speed. They played pretty fast game. India was nowhere near it. I think the Indians were under a lot of pressure, and in the end they gave up,” Pakistan AAJ TV reporter Abbas Shabbir told IANS.

Shabbir, who is from Islamabad, said Australia did to India what India did to Pakistan in the quarter-final match.

“Australia played a well-coordinated match. India got many opportunities but failed to convert them into goal,” said Rizawal Ali from the Associated Press.

It was Australia’s fourth gold medal in a row since the introduction of hockey at the Games in 1998.
