Top Pakistan hockey players want to play in Indian league

LAHORE - Top Pakistan hockey players want to be part of the World Series Hockey (League) in India, although the Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) has left the decision on the Indian government.

Top Indian players, along with nearly 60 foreign internationals, will feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) style league with million-dollar prize money.

Veteran Pakistani striker Rehan Butt said that he was open to playing in the hockey league in India.

“Definitely, we would like to play that league. Our experience in PHL was terrific and I enjoy playing in India more than anywhere else,” the Daily Times quoted Rehan, who is currently playing in the Malaysian League, as saying.

Zeeshan Ashraf, who led Pakistan to their gold medal winning campaign at the Asian Games in Guangzhou this year, also spoke in the same vein.

As many as 24 Pakistan players had participated in the Premier Hockey League (PHL) during 2005 to 2008. (ANI)
