MELBOURNE - Fifth seed Andy Murray of Britain on Friday entered the finals of the Australian Open 2011 defeating Spain’s David Ferrer in a semi-final match lasting four sets.
Murray won the match 4-6 7-6,6-1 7-6 over seventh seed Ferrer.
Murray will now face Slovak Novak Djokovic, who defeated Swiss great Roger Federer, in the finals that will be played on Sunday.
Federer has predicted that Murray will win this year’s Australian Open title.
Federer, who was hammered in straight sets by third seed Djokovic - 7-6, 7-5, 6-4 - said: “I fancy Murray’s chances to go through.”
The Daily Express quoted him, as saying: “It’s going to be an exciting final. Obviously if Novak plays at this level, he’s got his chances; if Murray continues playing at his level, he’ll have his chances too.” (ANI)
