BRISBANE - Stand-in Australian captain Michael Clarke reckons that injured skipper Ricky Ponting may rejoin the squad ahead of next month’s World Cup in the Indian sub-continent.

Ponting had fractured the little finger in his left hand while attempting to claim an edge at slip during the third Ashes Test in Perth last month.

“I think he will pick up a bat in the next few days to see how it feels,” the Age quoted Clarke, as saying.

“If the medical team is happy he will try and take part in this series no doubt - we will be keen to have him back as soon as possible,” he added.

The 36-year-old was earlier expected to be fit for Australia’s opening game in the World Cup against Zimbabwe on February 21. (ANI)
