Mumbai, Feb 3(ANI-Business Wire India): Former Indian captains Kapil Dev, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly are among nine cricketers who have been honoured with the ‘CEAT Cricket Rating World Cup Awards 2011′ for standout performances in every World Cup from 1975 onwards.

In a ceremony held at Mumbai’s Hotel Taj Mahal Palace, Glenn Turner received the award for the 1975 World Cup, Gordon Greenidge for the 1979 event, Kapil for 1983, Geoffrey Marsh for 1987, Wasim Akram for 1992, Aravinda De Silva for 1996, Dravid for 1999, Ganguly for 2003 and Matthew Hayden for 2007.

Speaking on the occasion, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar said: “The World Cup is probably one of the most important events in a cricketer’s career and to be able to perform consistently well in a World Cup is a dream for every cricketer.”

“The winners of all the individual awards have done just that, fulfilling their individual dreams and those who have helped their team in winning the World Cup have double the reason to be proud of themselves.”

“It is wonderful to see CEAT coming up with awards to recognize these special efforts of the individuals,” he added.

Harsh Goenka, RPG Enterprises Chairman, said that the award was conceptualised to pay tribute to World Cup legends.

“These legends of the game have carved a name for themselves and we are privileged to have them on one platform amongst us,” Goenka said.

“These cricketers have brought joy to millions of cricket fans from across the world over the years and it is a small gesture of honoring the spirit with which they have played the game at the biggest cricketing extravaganza,” he added.

In addition to the World Cup awards, Australia was adjudged the ‘CEAT International Cricket Team of the Year’ for 2009-2010.

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson was named the ‘CEAT International Cricketer of the Year’ for the same period. (ANI)
