Indians recall LHP Perez, designate OF Dellucci
CLEVELAND — The Indians have recalled left-hander Rafael Perez from Triple-A Columbus and designated outfielder David Dellucci for assignment to make roster room.
The moves came on Friday before the Indians opened a four-game home series against the New York Yankees.
The 35-year-old Dellucci opened this season on the disabled list and has battled injuries since signing a three-year contract to join the Indians as a free agent in December 2006. He hit .238 (132-for-554) in 183 games for Cleveland.
Perez, one of team’s most consistent relievers the past two seasons, struggled in 13 outings this April, going 0-1 with a 15.19 ERA.
At Columbus, he was 1-0 with two saves and did not allow a run in nine innings over seven outings, walking three and striking out nine.
