Jeter leads AL All-Star voting

NEW YORK — Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is the top AL vote-getter in balloting for the 80th All-Star game in St. Louis.

Jeter will be making his 10th appearance and sixth start in the Midsummer Classic. He will be joined in the starting lineup by teammate Mark Teixeira, who rallied to overtake Boston’s Kevin Youkilis for the starting nod at first base.

Texas center fielder Josh Hamilton held his starting spot despite being on the disabled list with an abdominal injury. Hamilton has said he will play. Seattle’s Ichiro Suzuki and Boston’s Jason Bay were elected to the other two spots in the outfield.

Also in the AL starting lineup: Tampa Bay third baseman Evan Longoria, Boston second baseman Dustin Pedroia and Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer.
