jeff francoeur gears up for the metsThe Mets swapped fielder, Ryan Church to the Braves for Jeff Francoeur, prior to their Friday’s match against the Reds. Reports suggest that there were several reasons behind this transfer. Probably, the Mets liked Francoeur’s speed and strength in the right field and most importantly his inclusion will provide them much more balance in their batting line up, with Francoeur being a “right handed” player.

Earlier, Francoeurr had hit .250 with five home runs and 35 RBIs in 82 games, during his stint with the Braves this season. “This is a trade not that’s not only for now, but for next next year and beyond, because of the youth of the player, and what he does fits the ballpark,” said General Manager, Omar Minaya.

The 25 year old, Francoeur is widely known for his defense in the right field. The Golden Glove award winner, Francoeur, has more assists than any other big league outfielder, since his debut in the Major League, in the year 2005.

“This ballpark plays better for Francoeur because, even though Ryan Church is a good defensive player, Francoeur covers a lot of ground,” said Minaya, as he explained the transfer of the fielder, Ryan Church. Fracoeur enthralled the fans as soon as he made his debut for the Braves, hitting .300 points with 14 home runs in 70 games.

“Omar has always talked to me and told me how much he likes my energy and the way that I play. I am looking forward to getting up there and playing in front of a packed house every night,” quipped Francoeur.
