Central Connecticut St. defeats Sacred Heart 24-12

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. — James Mallory scored two touchdowns, part of Central Connecticut State’s 24 unanswered second-half points, to beat Sacred Heart 24-12 on Saturday.

Mallory rushed for 80 yards on 21 carries and caught four passes for 28 yards for the Blue Devils (3-1, 1-0 Northeast Conference). Hunter Wanket was 15-for-21 passing with 127 yards.

Dale Fink threw a 26-yard score to Garry Coles and a 34 yarder to Stephen Tedesco, putting the Pioneers (0-4, 0-1) up 12-0 at halftime.

But the Blue Devils scored all the points in the second half, highlighted by Mallory’s 1-yard TD run in the third quarter and 9-yard score in the fourth to give them a 17-12 lead with 6:50 to play.

Fink drove the Pioneers down to the Blue Devils’ 5-yard line less than 3 minutes later. But Marcus Dorsey intercepted Fink’s pass, taking it 100 yards for the final score.
