NC farm honors Kay Yow with corn maze portrait

CARY, N.C. — A North Carolina farm is honoring Kay Yow with a corn maze portrait of the late women’s college basketball coach.

Michael Phillips of Phillips Farms in Cary says up to 2,000 people have traveled through Yow’s ear, navigated through her hair and necklace, and exited her right shoulder.

The North Carolina State University women’s basketball coach died in January after a long fight with breast cancer. She led the 1988 U.S. Olympic women’s team to a gold medal. She was 737-344 in 38 seasons.

Phillips said his family was initially skeptical about the investment. But the 8-acre maze has brought in profits to the farm.

He says $1 from every $10 admission ticket will be donated to Yow’s cancer fund.
