SUNY chairman to discuss Binghamton sports probe
ALBANY, N.Y. — The State University of New York’s trustees are scheduled to discuss the investigation into the athletics program at Binghamton University, where the basketball coach is on indefinite paid leave.
SUNY Chairman Carl Hayden’s discussion with the board’s Executive Committee is expected to include the probe by former state Chief Judge Judith Kaye into the character of players recruited to the basketball team. The meeting is schedule to begin late Tuesday afternoon.
Binghamton President Lois DeFleur called for an audit of the entire athletic program after the releases last month of star basketball player Emanuel “Tiki” Mayben, who’s facing drug charges, and five of his teammates.
Head basketball coach Kevin Broadus was put on leave from his $217,000-a-year job last week.
