nycele1Do you know who won the Game 5 of The Most World Series Championships of baseball on Monday? Yes you are right. Its the Phillies. Chase Utley’s vibrant performance gave Phillies an 8-6 victory over Yankees. Still, the Yankees lead the baseball series by 3-2.

On Sunday New York Yankees enjoyed a commanding 3-1 lead over Phillies .The Yankees have 40 appearances as a franchise in MLB, till date. Moreover, that number is the most titles of any major sports franchise in North America.

The World Series is the annual championship series of Major League Baseball (MLB). It has been the highest level of professional baseball in the United States and Canada since 1903, concluding the postseason of Major League Baseball. MLB is also sometimes known as the ‘October Classic’ or simply ‘The Series’.
The World Series is played between the champion clubs of the American League and the National League, which as of 2009 collectively include 29 clubs based in the United States and one club from Canada. Players are drawn primarily from the United States, Latin America (including the Caribbean), Canada, Japan, and Korea. The “modern” World Series has been played every year since 1903, With the exception of 1904 (boycott) and 1994 (player strike). Baseball has employed various championship formulas since the 1860s.

The New York Yankees of the American League have played in 40 of the 104 Series through 2009 and have won 26 World Series championships, the most of any Major League franchise and exactly one quarter of all World Series titles won to date. With their frequent appearances in the Fall Classic, the Yankees have also lost more Series (13) than any other club.

The Los Angeles Dodgers with 18 appearances have won the Series 6 times (once as Brooklyn, five times as Los Angeles). The St. Louis Cardinals have represented the National League 17 times and have won 10 championships, which is the second most of any Major League Team.

The Chicago Cubs have the longest streak of not winning the World Series, with their last championship in 1908.

Huge audiences came on Sunday to enjoy the World Series, but the game between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings, featuring the return of Brett Favre to Green Bay, was watched by an average of 29.8 million viewers considerably more than the 22.3 million viewers who turned up for the Yankees’ win over the Phillies in the World Series.

Fox scored the biggest night for network television since the Academy Awards show in February With an average of 23.3 million viewers for the four hours form 7 to 11 p.m. The game was the second most-watched Sunday game on Fox ever.

With the Game 5 win, Phillies still have a long way to walk to the World Series title, as none has won the series by overcoming a 3-1 deficit since 1985.

On Game 6 Wednesday Phillies will face Andy Petitte in New York.

Its interesting to note that craze for Baseball is soaring day by day. Sunday Game 4 was the most-watched Game 4 since 2004 in the World Series.
