Prairie View tops Alcorn State 34-14, wins title
LORMAN, Miss. — Prairie View A&M clinched its first Southwestern Athletic Conference Western Division title with a 34-14 victory over Alcorn State on Saturday as K.J. Black threw for three touchdowns.
Black completed 24 of 30 passes for 213 yards for the Panthers (7-1, 6-0), who will face the Eastern Division champion Dec. 12 in Birmingham, Ala.
After Prairie View led 21-0 at halftime, Antonio DeJarbett recovered a blocked punt for a touchdown to pull the Braves (2-6, 2-4) within two touchdowns with 8:46 left in the third quarter.
Prairie View responded with a 5-yard touchdown run by Donald Babers, who rushed for 134 yards on 26 carries.
Alcorn State scored on an 8-yard pass from Tim Buckley to Edward Johnson to make it 27-14, but Black’s 3-yard pass to Brandon Bell sealed Prairie View’s win.
Black also threw first-half touchdown passes of 17 and 6 yards to Marlon Allen.
