Youngstown State tops Illinois State 30-18
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Brandon Summers threw two touchdowns and Kevin Smith rushed for another score as Youngstown State beat Illinois State 30-18 on Saturday.
Summers completed 25 of his 38 passes for 346 yards for the Penguins (5-5, 3-4 Missouri Valley Conference). Smith added 121 yards on 27 rushes.
Dominique Barnes had 122 yards receiving and Donald Jones caught for 105 yards for Youngstown State. Barnes and Jones each had a touchdown catch.
A 39-yard field goal from Illinois State kicker Zach Kutch cut the Penguins’ lead to 20-18 with 14:52 left in the fourth quarter. But Stephen Blose later made a 37-yard field goal, and an 8-yard touchdown pass from Summers to Jones closed out the scoring with 9:32 left in the game.
The Redbirds (5-5, 4-3) were paced by quarterback Matt Brown, who threw 32-for-49 with 328 yards.
