Providence defeats Vermont 106-64
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Marshon Brooks had 24 points on 8-of-10 shooting and tied a career high with five steals as Providence rolled over Vermont 106-64 on Tuesday night.
Jamine Peterson added 20 points and five rebounds in 16 minutes for the Friars (4-1), who took control of the game with runs of 20-4 and 18-4 in the first half and led 56-26 at halftime.
Providence disrupted Vermont’s offense by pressing throughout, registering a season-high 19 steals.
Two-time America East player of the year Marqus Blakely had a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Catamounts (2-2), who never led.
The 106 points were a season-high for the Friars, who were coming off their first loss, 84-75 at Alabama on Friday.
Providence dominated Vermont in rebounding, 52-32, and shot 55.6 percent from 3-point range.
