Radford holds off Winthrop 61-59 in OT
ROCK HILL, S.C. — Art Parakhouski scored 21 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Radford to a 61-59 overtime victory over Winthrop in the Big South Conference opener for both schools on Thursday night.
Winthrop’s Reggie Middleton missed a 3-pointer at the horn and Radford (3-2) won for the first time in three games on a five-game road trip.
Parakhouski hit two free throws for a 56-55 Highlanders lead with 3:06 left in overtime. They increased their lead to 60-55 with 1:58 to play, but Matt Morgan cut the advantage to 60-57 with 1:47 left.
Neither team scored until George Valentine hit a layup to narrow the gap to 60-59 with 5 seconds left.
Parakhouski was 8-for-13 from the field.
Lazar Trifunovic scored 11 and Joey Lynch-Flohr added 10 points for Radford.
Andre Jones led Winthrop (2-4) with 16 points and Morgan scored 15. Andy Buechert led Winthrop with 10 rebounds.
