Troy beats Auburn for first time 81-77
AUBURN, Ala. — Brandon Hazzard scored 28 points as Troy defeated Auburn for the first time in school history, hanging on for an 81-77 victory on Friday night.
The Trojans fought off 23 turnovers, compared to 10 for the Tigers, who lead the series 10-1.
Hazzard was 7-for-10 from 3-point range for Troy, which had three other players in double figures. Michael Vogler scored 14 points and Antywan Jones added 11.
Richard Delk, a transfer from Mississippi State, had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Troy led 63-55 halfway through the second half and held off Auburn’s late run.
Tigers sophomore Frankie Sullivan, trying to tie the game at 77, missed a 3-pointer with 28 seconds left.
DeWayne Reed led Auburn with 18 points and seven assists while Sullivan added 16 points. Lucas Hargrove and Tay Waller scored 12 points apiece.
