Mercer rolls past Piedmont 87-62

MACON, Ga. — A.J. Kusnyer hit eight 3-pointers and set a career high with 26 points as Mercer rolled past Piedmont 87-62 on Thursday night.

Kusnyer, a senior who entered the game tied for 23rd in Division I in 3-pointers with 26 in eight games, was 8-for-10 from the 3-point line and didn’t attempt a 2-point field goal. Kusnyer scored nine of Mercer’s first 18 points and hit five 3-pointers in the first half as the Bears (4-5), who ended a four-game losing streak, took a 42-21 halftime lead.

Piedmont (3-3), a Division III program, was 8-for-25 from the field (32 percent) in the first half.

Mercer’s James Florence, who entered averaging 24.3 points a game, scored 14 points. Daniel Emerson added 14 points and 10 rebounds and Brian Mills had 12 points and 11 rebounds.

J.C. Herebia led Piedmont with 15 points and eight rebounds, Michael Rubio scored 12 and Tyler Arnold added 11.
