Dawson’s big night, hot stretch in OT propels Delaware to 82-72 win over Lafayette

Delaware beats Lafayette 82-72 in OT
NEWARK, Del. — Alphonso Dawson scored a season-high 23 points, including a run of eight straight in overtime, to lead Delaware to an 82-72 win over Lafayette on Tuesday night.
Dawson, who also grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds, hit a jumper with 9 seconds left in regulation to knot the score at 61, sending the game into the extra frame.
The teams were tied at 65 less than 3 minutes into overtime when Dawson hit a 3-pointer to put the Blue Hens (4-8) up by three. Delaware wouldn’t trail again, as Dawson’s 3 was the beginning of a 17-7 run the rest of the way to seal the OT win.
The Blue Hens fought back from a seven-point deficit with 2:17 left in regulation to send the game into OT.
D.J. Boney added 16 points for Delaware and Jawan Carter had 15.
Jared Mintz was the lone scorer in double figures for the Leopards (7-6), finishing with a career-high 26 points.
