Marist beats Manhattan 72-66 for 1st win of season
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. — Devin Price and Sam Prescott scored 13 points each as Marist defeated Manhattan 72-66 for the Red Foxes’ first win of the season.
Marist (1-11, 1-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) had not started a season 0-11 since 1990-91, when the Red Foxes were 0-12.
Marist jumped out to a 19-9 lead. The Red Foxes outshot Manhattan from the field 45.8 percent (11-for-24) to 28 percent (7-for-25) in the first half to lead 32-21 at halftime.
Marist led by as many as 13 points in the second half. After Manhattan (6-7, 1-2) pulled within 64-60, the Red Foxes were 8-for-8 from the free throw line in the final minute to hold on.
Candon Rusin scored 11 first-half points for Marist. Rob Johnson and Daye Kaba added 10 points apiece.
Rico Pickett led the Jaspers, who have lost two in a row, with 26 points and Darryl Crawford added 17.
Manhattan outrebounded Marist 34-33.
