St. Peters holds off Marist 61-49
JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Nick Leon scored 16 points and St. Peter’s beat Marist for the second straight time in a 61-49 victory on Monday night.
Ryan Bacon added 12 points for the Peacocks (7-7, 2-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) who had lost five in a row to Marist before its current winning streak. The Peacocks lead the series 17-16.
Wesley Jenkins, the Peacocks’ leading scorer, was held to seven points, but contributed three steals and five rebounds.
St. Peter’s led 27-21 at halftime and Marist pulled to within 31-27 with 17:21 to play in the game. But the Peacocks responded with a 13-0 run that lasted nearly eight minutes to take their largest lead at 44-27 with 10:56 to play.
Marist (1-12, 1-3), which was led by Sam Prescott with 14 points, lost its ninth straight game on the road this season. Devin Price added 12 points for the Red Foxes.
