Johnson leads Montana past Portland State 90-58
MISSOULA, Mont. — Anthony Johnson scored 20 points, Brian Qvale had 19 and Montana rolled over Portland State 90-58 Saturday night.
Montana shot 58 percent (32 of 55). Qvale highlighted the hot shooting with an 8 of 9 performance.
The Grizzlies severed a 16-16 tie with 11 minutes to go in the first half when Derek Selvig hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Montana (12-6, 3-3 Big Sky Conference) closed the half on a 25-12 run to take a 41-28 cushion into intermission.
The Grizzlies’ biggest lead came at 74-46 with six minutes remaining following a jumper by Jack McGillis.
Selvig finished with 11 points and a team-high six rebounds, and Ryan Staudacher added 15 points for the Grizzlies.
Phil Nelson led Portland State (7-9, 2-2) with 16 points. The Vikings went 0-2 on their road trip through Montana, falling to Montana State 77-71 on Friday.
