Virginia Military Institute defeats Randolph 99-88
LEXINGTON, Va. — Keith Gabriel scored 24 points and Virginia Military Institute defeated Randolph College 99-88 on Monday night.
The Keydets (5-9) shot 50.7 percent from the field (37 of 73) and scored 34 points off of 24 Randolph turnovers.
Austin Kenon scored 18 points off 5-of-8 shooting from 3-point range, Ron Burks chipped in with 14 points and Michael Sparks added 12 for VMI.
Sparks, the Big South leader in 3-point percentage (48.9), was 2 of 9 from long range (33.3 percent) against Randolph (8-6).
The Keydets scored 24 points in the paint in the first half and led 54-37 at halftime.
VMI increased its lead to as many as 23, 54-31, on Sparks’ layup with 1:34 left to play.
The Keydets, allowing 100.5 points per game, was outrebounded 44-36 by Randolph.
Derrick Woods-Morrow had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Colton Hunt had 22 points and 10 rebounds for the WildCats.
