Kennesaw State defeats SIU-Edwardsville 71-60

KENNESAW, Ga. — Markeith Cummings and Kurtis Woods each scored 20 points to lead Kennesaw State to a 71-60 victory over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Tuesday night.

LaDaris Green added 18 rebounds for the Owls (6-11), who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Cummings and Spencer Dixon combined for 10 points during an 11-0 run as the Owls broke open a tie at 27. SIU-Edwardsville (2-15), which is making the transition from Division II to Division I, cut the deficit to 45-41 on Aamir McCleary’s 3-pointer with 9:40 left in the game.

Woods’ 3-pointer gave Kennesaw State a 60-50 lead with 5:04 remaining.

Green, a freshman, scored only two points but had 12 rebounds on the defensive end.

Dixon finished with 14 points.

Mark Yelovich scored 21 points, McCleary added 13 points and Denykco Bowles had 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Cougars, who lost their ninth straight.
