Samford coach in stable condition after collapse

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Samford coach Jimmy Tillette has been transferred to a Birmingham hospital after collapsing during a game in Greensboro, N.C.

Samford spokesman Zac Schrieber says the 59-year-old Tillette was airlifted to UAB Hospital for further testing and observation Sunday afternoon. He said the coach was in stable condition.

Tillette fell on the bench and then to the floor after suffering a seizure during the second half of Saturday’s 70-67 victory over North Carolina-Greensboro. He was taken to a training room until an ambulance arrived.

Associate head coach Paul Kelly will serve as interim coach.

Tillette is in his 13th season as the Bulldogs coach with a 204-171 record and two NCAA tournament appearances.
