Youngstown State beats NC Central 70-57
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — DeAndre Mays had 17 points and eight assists and Youngstown State used a second-half spurt to hold off North Carolina Central 70-57 on Wednesday night, ending a four-game skid.
The Penguins (8-12) led 49-36 with 10:52 left, then the Eagles (4-18) used a 9-0 run to pull within four points, with C.J. Wilkerson scoring seven straight. Youngstown State responded with a 15-2 run to lead by 17 with 3:58 left.
Sirlester Martin and Kelvin Bright had 13 each and Vytas Sulskis 11 for the Penguins, who have won all four games this season when four players were in double figures.
Wilkerson scored 26 points for N.C. Central, shooting 7-for-11 from the field and 10-for-13 from the free throw line.
The Eagles, who have lost three straight, shot 70 percent from the field (14-for-20) and the free throw line (7-for-10) in the second half, but couldn’t overcome 12 first-half turnovers.
