Former QB joins Stanford basketball team
STANFORD, Calif. — Former Stanford starting quarterback Tavita Pritchard has joined the short-handed basketball team and will be on the bench for Thursday’s game at Arizona.
Coach Johnny Dawkins made the announcement Wednesday night about Pritchard, the Cardinal’s quarterback during the 2007 and ‘08 seasons.
A fifth-year senior, Pritchard’s football eligibility is up but he’s been cleared to play basketball for Stanford.
Pritchard becomes the first multisport athlete on the men’s basketball team since football players Mark Bradford and Evan Moore played limited minutes for the Cardinal during the 2004-05 season. Pritchard’s first practice was Tuesday.
On the football field, Pritchard completed 254 of 471 passes for 2,865 yards and 15 touchdowns.
