Coach dismisses Oregon football player from team

EUGENE, Ore. — A University of Oregon football player has been dismissed from the team.

Head coach Chip Kelly announced Sunday that wide receiver Jamere Holland was dismissed for violating team rules. Kelly didn’t specify which rules were violated.

In two seasons, Holland accumulated 17 catches for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

The dismissal follows a weekend citation for another Oregon football player, Kristian Kiko Alonso. The 19-year-old linebacker was cited early Saturday with investigation of driving under the influence of intoxicants.

Alonso is the fourth Oregon football player to get into legal trouble in less than a month.

Kelly said at a news conference Friday that playing was a privilege and if players couldn’t follow rules, he would make “tough decisions.”
