Loyola defeats Manhattan 71-59
BALTIMORE — Jamal Barney scored 24 points, including nine during a key second-half run, to lead Loyola (Md.) past Manhattan 71-59 on Sunday.
The Greyhounds (13-16, 6-12 Metro Atlantic Athletic Association) were 4 of 10 from 3 point range, held the Jaspers to 26.7 percent shooting (8 of 30) and rallied from a 6-1 Manhattan run, all in the second half.
Andrew Gabriel’s two free throws brought the Jaspers (10-19, 4-13) within 55-54 with 7:33 to go. But Barney sparked a 12-0 run, capped by his 3 at the shot-clock buzzer with 2:06 remaining.
Brett Harvey scored 10 and Shane Walker added 14 boards for Loyola, which outrebounded Manhattan 49-37.
Darryl Crawford scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Jaspers.
Loyola snapped a four-game losing streak and earned the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament on March 5. The Greyhounds will face the No. 9 seeded Jaspers.
