Indians beat Reds 9-2 in spring opener

GOODYEAR, Ariz. — Asdrubal Cabrera opened Cleveland’s spring training season with a homer Friday and Grady Sizemore had a two-run double in his return from a pair of operations, leading the Indians to a 9-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.

The Reds honored several players from their 1990 World Series championship club before the game, their first at a facility they now share with the intrastate-rival Indians.

Cabrera opened the game with a homer off Mike Lincoln, who is competing for the fifth spot in Cincinnati’s rotation. Sizemore, who had operations to clean out his left elbow and fix a hernia last September, doubled with the bases loaded in the second off Lincoln, who gave up four runs.
