Vikings don’t have glaring needs, but RB is a must

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings have started the free agent season with a loss.

Backup running back Chester Taylor chose to leave for the rival Chicago Bears on Friday, the first day of the NFL’s open market.

The Vikings weren’t going to be very active this year after several spending sprees in recent offseasons, but now that Taylor is gone they’re allowed to sign a free agent from another team.

Whether through free agency or the draft, the Vikings must replace their valuable third-down back. They’re also in need of some help in the secondary, where starters Antoine Winfield and Cedric Griffin are recovering from injuries and nickel back Benny Sapp is an unrestricted free agent.
