Northeastern defeats Hofstra 74-71 in 2OT in CAA

RICHMOND, Va. — Matt Janning hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 45.2 seconds left in the second overtime and Manny Adako blocked Cornelius Vines’ trey on Hofstra’s next possession to bring second-seeded Northeastern a 74-71 win over the Pride on Saturday night in the quarterfinals of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

Northeastern (20-11) will face the winner of the James Madison-William & Mary game in Sunday’s second semifinal.

After Adako’s block, Chaisson Allen hit 4 of 6 free throws for Northeastern. Halil Kanacevic missed a 3-pointer for Hofstra at the buzzer, snapping the Pride’s seven-game win streak.

Janning had a season-high 26 points along with nine rebounds, three assists and two steals. Adako had 13 points and Allen added 10 for the Huskies.

Charles Jenkins led Hofstra (19-14) with 24 points and Vines and Greg Washington scored 11 apiece.
