Marion Jones is making a come back to the world of sports. Jones has signed a one-year contract with the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock on Tuesday. The Olympic sprinter was last seen playing competitive basketball in 1997.

In 2007, the former college basketball player was stripped of five Olympic medals, after admitting that she was using performance enhancing drugs during the game. Jones also served six months in a Texas prison for lying to federal prosecutors about doping and her role in a check-fraud scam.

Marion Jones’s decision to return to the professional basketball is expected to be beneficial for both her career and the WNBA. Though it will be harder for an Olympic athlete to play in Tulsa for a not-so-popular team, it would give Jones a good opportunity to reestablish her image.

Nolan RichardsonJones, Shock head coach was the man behind to pull Jones in WNBA. He signed her to the rookie’s minimum, $35,000. Jones is believed to make her debut in WNBA against Minnesota on May 15.

But before that, Jones had to be certified by league president Donna Orender in order to gain eligibility to play in the WNBA.

We wish Jones all the good lucks for her new career.
