UCF pulls away from SMU 69-53 in Conference USA 1st round

UCF balance beats SMU, 69-53, in Conference USA
TULSA, Okla. — Three players scored in double figures for UCF as the Knights defeated SMU 69-53 in the first round of the Conference USA tournament Wednesday night.
Taylor Young scored 15 points, Isaac Sosa 14 and A. J. Tyler 12 for ninth-seeded UCF (15-16), which will play No. 25 UTEP, the tournament’s top seed, in the quarterfinals Thursday night.
The Knights were 5-for-12 from 3-point range in the first half in taking a 32-30 lead. The eighth-seeded Mustangs (14-17) led 18-11 early, but UCF went on a 17-4 run and continued the momentum in the second half.
Keith Clanton scored off his own rebound while getting fouled on the play, and hit a free throw for a three-point play for a 46-36 lead.
Marcus Jordan, the son of NBA great Michael Jordan, made it 65-50 with a three-point play.
Derek Williams led SMU with 15 points.
