Perez strong, Mets hit 4 HRs to top Tigers 9-1

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — Oliver Perez threw four no-hit innings and the New York Mets hit four home runs Saturday in a 9-1 victory over a Detroit Tigers split squad.

Perez and reliever Hisanori Takahashi combined to no-hit the Tigers through the first six innings. Magglio Ordonez singled in the seventh for Detroit.

The Mets then erupted for nine runs in the seventh inning — getting home runs from David Wright, Daniel Murphy, Gary Matthews Jr. and a three-run shot from Jason Bay, his first as a Met.

For Wright, who hit just 10 home runs last year, it was his third home run of the spring.

(This version CORRECTS to Mets scoring all nine runs in seventh inning.)
